Your 3M mask when used with the proper filter, is designed to give you excellent respiratory protection. That being said, it’s important to regularly clean and properly store your respirator to keep it performing at an optimal level. To clean your full face mask respirator, 3M recommends the following procedure: 1. Disassemble your respirator by removing the nose cup and filters; the centre adapter, face seal and lens can also be removed if deemed necessary. 2. Excluding the filter, clean and sanitise the respirator face piece by immersing in a warm cleaning solution (not more than 50 degrees Celsius); scrub with a soft brush until clean; do not use cleaning agents containing lanolin or other oils. 3. Disinfect respirator with a quarternary ammonium solution such as benzalkonium chloride or a sodium hypochlorite solution with a 50ppm chlorine ratio. 4. Rinse thoroughly in clean warm water and air dry in a contamination-free atmosphere. Be sure the drying temperature doesn’t exceed 50 degrees Celsius. 5. Inspect the respirator components taking note of the exhalation valve and seat. If these have deteriorated or are damaged, replace immediately. 6. Store the cleaned respirator in a cool, dry, contaminant-free area. Clean your respirator about once a month.
